CULPEPER, VA — A.G. Richardson Elementary School has proudly earned national recognition in the world’s largest online math competition. After being named Virginia State Champion for four consecutive months from January through April, A.G. Richardson competed in the 2025 Prodigy National Cup, held May 1–14, and surged to an impressive third-place finish nationwide.

The Prodigy National Cup rewards schools that demonstrate exceptional student engagement and achievement in math through the Prodigy Math platform. Throughout the spring, A.G. Richardson students actively participated in state-level math challenges, with their top placements each month contributing crucial points toward their overall national ranking.

By consistently excelling in the monthly State Challenges, A.G. Richardson earned a coveted spot in the Platinum Tier, reserved for the top 25% of participating schools across the country. Schools in this elite tier competed for a share of the competition’s $100,000 technology grant pool.

Thanks to a determined final push and strong participation across all grade levels, A.G. Richardson Elementary secured third place in the nation, earning the school a $10,000 technology grant, a school-wide pizza party, and exclusive Prodigy swag.

“This national recognition is a testament to our students’ excitement for learning and our staff’s commitment to academic excellence,” said Principal Temesha Dabney. “We’re incredibly proud of our students and staff for not only showing what they can achieve in math, but for coming together as a school community to reach this remarkable milestone.”

The Prodigy National Cup challenges schools to promote math achievement through fun, game-based learning. With thousands of schools participating, A.G. Richardson’s success highlights the power of collaboration, motivation, and academic drive.
